Cerdà and Barcelona. The first metropoli
The exhibition at the Museu d'Història de Barcelona attempts to show the complex Cerdà's Plan, the energy of an urban society shaken by the industrial revolution and, the difficulties that were raised with the break with the ancient regime. The revolution of 1868, which marks, in fact, the removal of Cerdà from the urban scene, was the occasion for the transformation project of the Citadel and the Born and in this project emerged the strong personality of Rius i Taulet, a politician devoted to local politics and with ability to push Barcelona to modernity. His two major projects, the first Universal Exhibition in Spanish territory in 1888 and the unification of the entire municipal territory affected by the Cerdà Plan, form the leitmotif of the last part of the exhibition.
